There are several legal methods for teaching children at home in Tennessee. These methods include:
(1) Traditional home school (2) Church-related school
(3) Long distance learning program of an accredited private school
A direct link to each option is not available so additional information can be obtained by clicking on this site: http://www.michie.com/tennessee/lpext.dll?f=templates&fn=main-h.htm&cp=tncode, then continue to click on each subsection for additional information:
(1) Traditional home school—Title 49 (Education), Chapter 6 (Elementary and Secondary Education), Part 30 (Attendance), Section 3050 (Home schools)
(2) Church-related school—Title 49 (Education), Chapter 50 (Miscellaneous), Part 8 (Private Schools), Section 801 (Church-related schools)
(3) Long distance learning program of an accredited private school—new option not mentioned on internet as of July 2009.
Although the word “home school” officially describes only one of the three home instruction methods described above (method #1), the word “home school” as used in the common vernacular is often used to describe all three legal methods for teaching children at home. The Kingsport Christian Academy uses terminology that’s consistent with the common vernacular to avoid confusion regarding our mission and purpose. |
